Learning Ally; Audiobook Accommodation for students who learn differently

In this session you will learn how Learning Ally can open up a world of stories and educational content for students. Learning Ally provides human recorded audiobooks that includes textbooks, core novels and recreational reading books, grades 1-12 and beyond. Participants will experience how to assist students with their personalized accounts, discover our audiobooks and additional resources including our annual reading contests, Spotlight on Dyslexia Virtual Conference, the YES! student advocacy program and our teamwork with local authors including Jeff Kinney and Superbowl Champion Malcolm Mitchell (author of The Magician's Hat). Technology is not just about spicing up the classroom anymore - It is an essential tool to insure that all students have equal access to the curriculum. Thankfully, today's mobile technology makes it so easy for students to access information and demonstrate learning. In this session, we will review the concept of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its role in curriculum design. We will then look at a number of free and low-cost options that can help UDL-ize your classroom for all students.

This  panel provides an opportunity for high school students who receive special education services to share their thoughts and experiences about best practices and accommodations that help them be successful in the classroom. Come hear students describe what works including:

-How material is presented
-Preparation for assessments
-Keeping track of assignments
-Communication with teachers
-Self-advocacy

Ask questions and get feedback from students about how to implement accommodations and enhance the experience of students in your classrooms on IEPs!

Assistive Technology Round Table

Stephen (Instructional Technology Specialist in Dover), Nisha (occupational therapist in Dover), Andrea (Strategies-Based Classroom Teacher in Dover) and Laura (Special Education teacher in Dover) for a round table discussion on the use of assistive technology in the classroom. This will be a highly interactive session with panelists giving their experiences with using assistive technology to level the playing field for students.
